The site that was once the Alaskan Way Viaduct has been transformed into something truly special: Waterfront Park. The new public park held its grand opening on September 6, 2025 with an intentional focus on community building, connection, and cultural celebration.

Many around the city invested in the site’s transformation, amounting to $170 million total, and the results speak for themselves. 20 acres of land stretch from Lumen Field to Belltown, holding a surplus of activities, historical sites, art, and incredible structures.

To complement its amenities the park hosted 270+ free events this season. Of the 202 people that led programming 82% were part of historically underrepresented communities. The 68 vendors and 11 food vendors who operated across the park, generated an impressive $2.5M in revenue, proving itself as an impactful addition to the local economy.

All in all the park has been a resounding success, with Seattle and greater Puget Sound residents alike singing its praises. According to KOMO 4, an impressive 3.2 million people visited this season, so the future looks bright for Waterfront Park.
