The Seattle Sounders FC have officially ended their long summer transfer window drought by acquiring Serbian international striker Dejan Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City in a blockbuster $6 million deal. The move marks Seattle’s first summer signing since August 2021, when Brazilian winger Léo Chú joined the club from Grêmio.
For Sounders supporters, Joveljić is a deeply familiar face. Sounders fans vividly remember the Serbian forward as the heartbreaker who ended Seattle’s 2024 postseason run. Playing for the LA Galaxy at the time, Joveljić netted a dramatic 85th-minute winner in the Western Conference Final, sending the Galaxy to the MLS Cup and eliminating Seattle. Following a brief stint with Sporting KC, the 26-year-old goalscorer now crosses rivalry lines to bolster the Sounders’ attack.
The acquisition brings a proven primary scoring option to Seattle’s front line as the club pushes toward the MLS Cup Playoffs. Across his Major League Soccer career, Joveljić has established himself as an elite finisher in front of goal, combining opportunistic movement with clinical finishing inside the penalty box.
By securing Joveljić, Sounders management delivers on its promise to invest in high-caliber attacking talent ahead of the stretch run. With his postseason experience and penchant for clutch moments, Joveljić is expected to step directly into the starting lineup and lead the line at Lumen Field.
